I am a sicko today. I can't remember the last time I took a day off to be sick.

I think I got sick of Maria Paz who we bumped into at the mall in Oshawa. She wanted to drink some of our drink and I said go ahead and she said she was sick and I said oh that doesn't matter because I have an immune system made out of iron.

With that said, I realize I am an arrogant dumbface.

Dinner with the McKenleys

Friday, June 23, 2006

Last night we had dinner with the McKenleys. They came over 1 hour late. ONE HOUR! I was worried that the food would be horrible by then:

- Zucchini in garlic and red wine vinegar, skewered and grilled
- Steak in Montreal Steak seasoning
- Potatoes in lemon and rosemary
- Tomatoe and purple onion salad

Food was good, although the steak was well done (that's how Saj likes it ;-)). Afterwards we went to have dessert downtown at Futures - where I found out that Saj is dessert-crazy, so I should have never shown him the bakery-cafe that has 20+ cakes and 10+ pies to choose from. After THAT, we went to Sonic Boom - the largest Used CD/DVD/Vinyl store that I know of in Toronto.

We had such a good time with them. Before we knew it, it was midnight and as adults we all had to go home 'cause we have work in the morning... We just had such a good time talking about life, and struggles, and just general stuff about how people think about things that puzzles us.

Yay! Arty night people!

New Toy!

Wednesday, June 21, 2006

I have my new Canon digital camera. I waited a long, long time for this... :-) I can't wait to take new cool pictures everywhere I go!

Weird thing is that getting this new camera launched me into designing differently. I guess it made me consider what I COULD be doing... and caused me to actually DRAW at work today. I know, I know... you ask how is it even related? I can't explain. But yes, I did draw a picture today to incorporate into my design that I worked on today. I showed at least 3 people at work.

And told Gonzo.
And Margaret.

in preparation

Today, i made dinner for my dad (well, other people came to ate, but IN HONOUR of him) for Father's Day.

Tonight's menu:
- Fresh Herb Pizza [rosemary, thyme, marjoram with coarse salt, olive oil]
- Vietnamese Lettuce Wraps with Lemongrass Pork [see recipe here. it rocks]
- Bell Pepper and Summer Squash Skewers
- Spaghetti with Cherry Tomatoes and Basil

I'm so excited... my father (an exceptional cook himself) actually looks forward to my cooking. Margaret was wondering earlier this week what we could do for dad for Father's Day and since I know that he likes my cooking I figure it would be nice to stay in and I can cook! Of course Margaret came and helped (after all... he's her dad too.)

Well, we'll fulllllll. We've had dessert twice. Bad.
Only thing is that Christine was missing... She'll be home Tuesday!

First swim of the season!

With an impromptu party at the Thompson's I have finally gotten to go swimming for the first time this year. Ohhh it feels good. I have to get my butt in gear and get down to Douglas Snow and become a spectacular swimmer that can do 50 laps in a row... yeah, I'd be happy to be able to do 10 right now...

It was nice. Gonzo invited Ben and Melody over for dinner at our house tonight, which ended up turning into us bringing the meat over to the Thompsons where we hung out with the Thompsons (minus Paula...) and Cynthia, Sinclair and Tony. That kid... Anyway, the shiskabobs turned out spectacular (key:bacon). When Gonzo saw how much meat I brought over (not very much) he was worried. Melody convinced me to cut them up in half and voila there were suddenly at least 12 skewers that magically appeared. Hefty ones too! Not enough bacon however...

I got a few mosquito bites. First of the season as well.

I had a semi-brutal day. So hot in the apartment... I did laundry, did some chores, sorted through some financial stuff, downloaded new software to help me manage our financial life, took a 3 hour nap. I'm not sure which weekend I prefer: the weekend that Gonzo works mornings, or the weekend Gonzo works night. Both blow, I guess.

Anyway, the evening worked out spectacular... although I haven't a clue as to where my parents went. We usually go over every Saturday night, but I called home and no one answered. My parents - they've come out of their cocoons and now are spectacular social butterflies that cannot be tied down. It's good though. For so long their lives were ALL about us (which I appreciate a whole ton), but now they're finding other people to touch and reach out to. They're in a good spot in their lives to do that.

Hopefully tomorrow will be better. I'd like to exercise tomorrow. And...
- clean up in time for Father's Day dinner tomorrow night
- clean the bathroom
- tidy the kitchen
- decide what to cook and then shop for dinner

Hopefully Margaret is planning on picking me up otherwise I haven't a clue as to how we're gonna get the food...

11 minutes

Saturday, June 17, 2006

11 minutes until i run out of battery on the family powerbook. i want to write a blog, but i know that i should not plug the computer in 'cause i really should sleep. it's 1:50. if i plug it in i know that i definitely will continue to stay up. the internet is never ending. never never ending.

resonate was nice tonight. we had it outdoors and the temperature was fabulous with a lovely light breeze. i admit was getting a little bit anxious when we started approaching the start time of the service and we suddenly had things to do although we had been sitting around for a good hour. i couldn't believe that we were gonna be late! but that's okay. i should just let go and not be so uptight about stuff like that. i have been better lately i think. things that used to bug me don't bug me so much anymore, but there is still a lot of things to knock off that long list.

i'm watching when my temper is creeping up more closely these days. don't want to turn into an adult anger bomb.

i just received my first warning that the computer will suddenly SHUT OFF if i do not plug it in soon.

tomorrow i hope to:
- do one load of laundry
- exercise (go running)
- organize my desk

that should take me ALL day until I go to SNG. okay, gotta go. weird. says I have 10 minutes left of battery time. liar.
