30th Anniversary Celebrations

My family in Montreal
Originally uploaded by limmers.
Well, we did it! We took our parents to Montreal in celebration of their 30th anniversary. The photo is of the entrance way into the Festival of Lights in Old Montreal. I LOVE OLD MONTREAL. I think that it's such a wonderfully unique place. So many nice buildings - and they did such a good job in just adding cool modern lighting to update it and highlight its history....

....Anyway, whoops, this was about my parents' anniversary....

We had a wonderful time - a wonderfully cold, cold time. I didn't know that cold could cling to you even into a piping hot room. Kind of scary.

Kind of scary like Montrealer driving. :-)

We had pretty much every kind of cuisine: Korean, Chinese, Italian, French, Thai... had Montreal smoked meat (at Schwartz's - you had to fight to get in!), and picked up Montreal bagels for hometime from St. Viateur's (it was an ordeal to find the darn place on the internet). Food in Montreal definitely rivals Toronto's yummies.

We went to the Biodome on Saturday and that was really cool. I wasn't sure whether everyone would enjoy it or not, but if there was only a penguin exhibition in that whole place, it would have been worth it. They are the funniest animals I have EVER seen in my entire life.

Fashion in Montreal is better than Toronto - that's for sure. They have a much better selection, and better prices. My dad says, next time we need shoes we need to come here. Shoe shopping, strangely enough, characterized a lot of time there.

Lunch at Schwartz's was definitely a highlight - our final meal in Montreal. Matt found this place in an article in a tourist guide regarding Montreal's smoked meat. We get there, and it's this narrow little deli, and people are lined up all the way outside. There's so much yelling, and tension, and aggressiveness just to get into the place and get seated. Once you get seated, you order your food as fast as you can, and they bring it back just as fast. You then proceed to throw it down your throat, throw your money on the counter and run out of the store. It's the most wonderful 15 minutes of your life.

I'm so blessed to have such a great family. My parents' investments have paid off: they have three daughters who, in turn, love them - and would give anything up for them. Thanks God.

hi christine!

so, margaret and i went shopping this afternoon. i was already tired to begin with. i must be getting old, 'cause margaret seemed to have no problem. we went to ikea to pick up some stuff to make a present for my parents' 30th anniversary (old photos and stuff), and then went to yorkdale for random shopping. i bought socks, mascara and a big scarf. nothing too exciting... but it was good to get out for a day of old-school shopping.

but now i'm more tired than before.
and i also feel a little sick. i'm just at the beginning of the feeling so i hope to curb it with lots of fluids and hot home-cooking.

christine and dave are in paris! eiffel tower, the louvre, crepes and all. crazy!

gonna go make myself feel better now. ciao.

gonzo and i went to CAA this morning to pick up the materials we need to tour Montreal - when we go to visit la belle province for my parents' 30th anniversary celebration. it's going to be so exciting!

i have to firm up the itinerary, but i know that we're going to go to the festival of lights, eat a montreal bagel shoppe, go to the biodome, visit chinatown (like every good chinese person - visit chinatowns in other cities!) and ... that's all i've got planned so far. we've had our spot booked at the marriott residences for a few months now, so that's good and taken care of. as well as our rental vehicle. *sigh* a little vacation. i SO need one!

margaret made the point that this is the first time in a long time that we are going on a trip together as a family that wasn't to visit someone (like family). the last time we did this was probably when we went to walt disney world in florida, and that was like when i was 13, or something. yeah, that was a LONG time ago.

afterwards, we went to A Taste of Japan. what i didn't realize was that it was the same restaurant that we went to with uncle camera, in woodbridge. i am always scared to try new japanese restaurants because they tend to be ultra-pricey, but this is definitely a great substitute for sushi on bloor. at least it is for lunchtime. i will bring someone there sometime.

it is 5 minutes to 2am.
and the final episode to 24 season 4 is almost over...

i've learned so much today. i finally corrected my QuickTime problem in Safari, and that was because i needed to dearly work on saj's website - i wouldn't be able to test my work on the internet if my quicktime plugin wasn't loading...

so, after 2 and half hours of reading forums, yet again, i finally figured out how to make saj's tracks play on his website. embedded and everything. if you have a chance to visit it, i'd love to hear your feedback (sajonline.com). i know that it's a lot to download onto one page - especially on slower computers. if it is a big problem, i will split the menu onto two pages.

hey christine...

computer problems

so, the last couples of days have been themed with computer problems. yesterday, my entourage (outlook for mac) was freaking out. i have two 'inboxes' set up because one is on the local computer (not used), and the other is the view from the exchange server. suddenly, starting Wednesday, i started having some mail delivered to the one inbox, and some to the other. i was like, okay, this is going to be really annoying - so what do i do? i delete the account from my computer 'cause i figure it's resident on the server, so i'm just going to be downloading a new copy of it. no problem.

correction. lots of problems.

so i re-add the account to my entourage, and what happens? my sent items, my deleted items, etc. start ALL getting delivered to my local computer 'inbox'. aside from it being all mixed up, why it is bad is because now it's being removed from my account on the server. meaning, there is no back up for me to get a perfect set up the way it was again!

so i had to interrupt the process.
after reloading my account several times, and after a few hours, what i finally figured i had to do was delete my whole profile and start entourage all over again. wipe entourage's memory of me completely clean. that worked perfectly - but my tasks aren't backed up on the server in entourage, so i have to re-enter at least 50 different tasks back onto my to-do list. gah!

and today - ever since we upgraded to QuickTime 7 on our computer at home, we have not been able to view any videos online (i.e., apple trailers) and apparently many mac users have had the same problem. after moving, removing plugins and deleting preferences, emptying caches, restarting the computer and another two or three hours, i finally got it to work after it NOT working for at least two weeks.

*sigh* so much of life is lost to fixing computer problems.
and the other half: doing laundry and other annoying housework.

heehee! it's been over two and half years since i have posted here. the last time i posted here, it a whole 'nother chapter of my life - i am now married! anyway, i've 'gone dark' over the last few months. all the lame-o places i've tried to continue blogging have been unsuccessful. myspace has to be the most uninspiring webspace ever. i'll sit myself down to write something - but the interface is just so ugly, i cannot bring myself to write ANYTHING. gah!

well, christine's overseas and she has publicized her new blog at seule-moi.blogspot.com, and i was like, "oh yeah! i love blogger!" i forgot my first love. ;-) so, i'm back with blogger, and i hope that i'll be able to keep journalling something somewhere consistent. reading some of my old journals are so funny.

blogger has updated their templates so i'm happy to be back. i have nothing exciting to report - except that today is thursday, which means it's steak night at the jimenez household which means that my tummy is happy.
